One of these is content marketing.</p>
<p><strong>What is content marketing?</strong></p>
<p>It is the act of creating and publishing useful and original content to enhance a company’s visibility through expertise displays. Portals could be any technologically-based channel such as blogs, tweets, videos, photos, and even case studies. This marketing tool has a lot of advantages given that most people nowadays spend their time online. Any person who owns a blog can create an article that is valuable for others. Also, it requires minimal costs compared to other marketing tools which need print outs, ads, shows, and seminars.</p>
<p>According to a recent survey conducted by HiveFire, a Cambridge, Mass.-based internet marketing software solutions company, content marketing have beaten these classic marketing strategies as a preferred tool in the field of business, specifically the Business-to-Business (B2B) market. In the B2B market, companies reach new customers, serve current customers more effectively and encourage engagement by applying electronic tools to 21<sup>st</sup> century marketing. About 82% of the 400 B2B marketing professionals who were surveyed have chosen content marketing in effectively enhancing their company brand. Traditional marketing tactics were runners-up in the said survey: search engine marketing (70%), events (68%), public relations (64%) and print/TV/radio advertising (32%).</p>
<p>Promotions are utilized by companies to help them communicate their goods or services to their potential buyers. With this essential part of marketing, a company will achieve its marketing goals in the most efficient and effective way possible. Through time, more people are entering the business industry thus resulting to higher competition for sales, and later on profits. This is clearly supported by the said survey which shows that 78 percent of the respondents’ main marketing goal is driving sales and leads. This is followed by: to enhance brand awareness and to maintain thought leadership (both at 35 percent), to increase web traffic (28 percent) and to improve search results (24 percent).</p>
<p>Aside from content marketing, another emergent marketing tool is “content curation” which is known as the process of finding and organizing useful content to be published for people who will benefit most from it. Though useful, content curators find it hard to continuously manage such strategy due to lack of time (70%), according to the survey. Other hindrances include the lack of originality and quality content (66%), difficulty in measuring results (38%) and lack of people who will work on it (37%). Although there are disadvantages, it is evident that content marketing is continuously getting popular to marketing professionals in promoting their brands efficiently and effectively.</p>

<p>You may start hearing SMO being used more, and it may become as frequently used as SEO. SMO is an acronym for Social Media Optimisation. It&#8217;s also known as SMM (Social Media Marketing). If you don&#8217;t know what social media is already, they are websites that have a community of people with similar interests that allow its users or members to network and communicate on various topics. Prime examples of this are Facebook, MySpace, Digg, and Squidoo. There are literally hundreds of social media website currently online and its a list that will probably keep growing as people&#8217;s thirst for social interaction grows online. You are probably a member of one or ten of them.</p>
<p>SMO is still a developing discipline of online marketing. It is very different from traditional marketing. It doesn&#8217;t involve banner ads or any other commercial to convince you to take action, but rather SMO sells by recommendations of others, specifically others that are trusted with similar interests. Facebook has become the leader in this field with its Fanpages and &#8220;Likes&#8221;.</p>
<p>The idea behind SMO is that you&#8217;re no longer an advertiser, you&#8217;re a member. Participate in forums, comments, and build a reputation. This will take time just like any real online marketing programs. When you have found a base of members with similar interests, you can encourage your fellow members to re-post links. Just like in traditional linking methods, you must link to something of quality.</p>
<p>The second step is the make your website linkable. That mean creating a dynamic site where it is updated frequently, users can be involved, and have a reason to keep coming back. An easy and simple way is to create a blog. Notify your readers via social media when you post. This is a great way to build a reputation and to drive traffic to your website.</p>
<p>To build reputation, give something back the community. For example, create a free PDF or a video that your members can use and re-distribute. This goes a long way with your reputation.</p>

<p>For consumers: Google users now see a changing list of results as they type. Google considers this a significant step forward in the evolution of search. It claims the new system will save between two and five seconds per search.</p>
<p>For SEO: It depends &#8211; if a consumer usually types 3 words to get a result that they&#8217;re looking for, and now only type 2 words to get the results they want, then optimizers may have to cater for an additional keyword.</p>
<p>For example, if a site is optimised for &#8220;leather handbags for sale&#8221; and the consumer is happy with the instant result for &#8220;leather handbags&#8221;, then it needs to be optimised for &#8220;leather handbags&#8221; now. Basically it means some extra keywords to seo for. No big deal.</p>
<p>Webmasters must now note Google&#8217;s keyword suggestions which quickly pop-up and target them in their SEO efforts. Analyzing and targeting which keyword phrases Google are displaying in your niche market will be vital to capturing the majority of the traffic. Surfers will click on Google&#8217;s suggestions to find what they&#8217;re looking for on the web. <p>Crawlers do not see images, Flash movies, JavaScript, frames, password-protected pages and directories, so if you have tons of these on your site you&#8217;d better find out if any of these are crawlable. <p>After a page is crawled, the next step is to <strong>index</strong> its content. The indexed page is stored in a giant database, from where it can later be retrieved. Essentially, the process of indexing is identifying the words and expressions that best describe the page and assigning the page to particular keywords. Sometimes they might not get the meaning of a page right but if you help them by optimising it, it will be easier for them to classify your pages correctly and for you – to get higher rankings.</p>
<p>When a search request comes, the search engine <strong>processes</strong> it – i.e. it compares the search string in the search request with the indexed pages in the database. Since it is likely that more than one page contains the search string, the search engine starts <strong>calculating the relevancy</strong> of each of the pages in its index to the search string.</p>
<p>There are various algorithms to calculate relevancy. Each of these algorithms has different relative weights for common factors like keyword density, links, or metatags. Google places a high priority on Links.</p>
<p>The last step in search engines&#8217; activity is <strong>retrieving</strong> the results and ordering them in terms of relevancy.</p>
